About Rep. Leslie Herod:
Representative Herod was elected in 2016 as the first LGBTQ African American in the General Assembly. Since then, she has sent 52 bills to the Governor’s desk, including legislation to de-felonize drug possession, end cash bail for minor offenses, give a $100 college kickstarter account to every child born or adopted in Colorado, and require jails and prisons to provide free menstrual hygiene products to inmates. In addition to winning reelection in 2018, Rep. Herod championed a landmark ballot initiative - Caring 4 Denver - that will raise at least $35 million annually for mental health and substance misuse treatment and services for children and adults in Denver. Rep. Herod represents Northeast Denver and serves as the Chair of the House Finance Committee, Vice-Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Legal Services, and Chair of the Colorado Black Democratic Legislative Caucus.
Job Description:
Legislative aides keep the essential functions of a legislative office running smoothly. Primary responsibilities will include managing a very busy calendar, scheduling meetings, responding to constituent emails and phone inquiries, managing a team of 3-4 interns, and organizing in-person town halls and other events in the district. As time allows, a qualified legislative aide will be asked to perform policy research and work on specific bills if they have relevant experience. Being a Legislative Aide at the Capitol puts you in the middle of the state’s most exciting political action and often opens the door for other opportunities in politics, government, and public service.

Preferred Qualifications:
Copywriting and/or graphic design skills Experience with event planning and execution Fluency with Google Suites (Drive, Docs & Sheets) Photography and videography experience Knowledge of Colorado government a plus
Compensation:
$15 per hour, 40 hours / week from January 6th through May 8th, 20 hours / week from mid- December through January 5th, and 20 hours / week from May 9th until end-date (no later than June 30th). Benefits include a PERA retirement account membership and a daily travel stipend (Jan 6 – May 6 only).
